Almost three decades in business. FTSE-listed. Multiple awards. But does 888 Casino still hold up in 2026 — or is it coasting on reputation? I deposited real money to find out.

1997. Dial-up modems. AltaVista was a search engine. And somebody at a company in Gibraltar thought online casino sounded like a good idea. They called it Casino-on-Net. Mad looking back.
Twenty-nine years later? Still here. Rebranded to 888 Casino, floated on the London Stock Exchange, picked up a UKGC licence 39028, won Casino Operator of the Year at the EGR Awards twice. I tested them first in 2020 — good enough then, nothing special. Came back in February 2026 just because twenty-nine years is a long time and I wanted to see if the old guard could keep up with the LeoVegases and Casumos of the world.
Spoiler: kind of.
New account. 25 February. Registration took five minutes — longer than LeoVegas or bet365, partly because the email verification link was slow to arrive. Deposited sixty pounds via PayPal. Snatched the hundred free spins with code WELCOME100FS. Played slots for an hour, switched to live blackjack for another hour, then tried one of 888's in-house games — 888 Jackpot — which I will revisit because it genuinely surprised me.
Then the withdrawal. This is where you feel the twenty-nine years.
Two options. Not one. Two. That is already different from most UK casinos.

Is that bad? No, not bad. Is it good? Also no. LeoVegas did the same process with PayPal and a similar amount in two hours. bet365 in five minutes. 888 Holdings is a billion-pound FTSE company. They have the infrastructure. Twenty-two hours for a PayPal cashout in 2026 just feels like they have not prioritised it.
Debit cards are worse. One to five working days. Coral does Visa Fast Funds in twelve minutes. Different world.

No crypto. No Apple Pay (which is odd -- LeoVegas has it). And no phone support if your withdrawal gets stuck. Chat only. You message an agent, you wait, you hope somebody replies before your patience runs out.

Two minutes to connect -- longer than LeoVegas (forty-three seconds) but shorter than Betway (fourteen minutes, which... yeah, don't get me started). Agent was Jasmine. I asked about the wagering on the free spins -- she said 10x on winnings, seven-day expiry. Correct. Didn't try to sell me a reload bonus. Didn't redirect me to a FAQ page. Just answered the question. That's all I ask, really.
Phone support, though. None. Zero. For a company listed on the London Stock Exchange with nearly three decades of operation, that strikes me as a cost-saving choice. William Hill still has a phone line. Grosvenor too. 888 apparently decided chat was enough. For me it is, most of the time. But if you're the sort of person who wants to actually speak to a human when your account gets frozen or a withdrawal goes missing -- and some people are, reasonably -- then 888 leaves you without that option.
Twenty-nine years. FTSE. Two EGR awards. Clean licence. In-house games you can't get anywhere else. The trust is earned, not manufactured.
But -- and I'm going to say this plainly -- twenty-two hours for a PayPal withdrawal is not good enough in 2026. It just isn't. Not when LeoVegas does it in two hours and bet365 does it in five minutes. Not when you're a publicly listed billion-pound company with engineering resources that most operators can only dream of. That number needs to come down. The no-phone-support thing sits wrong with me too. Seven-day bonus expiry nearly caught me out. These are not catastrophic issues. They are, to be frank, lazy ones.
